Award winning pianos, handmade in England

Based in former cowsheds on the Yorkshire Dales, Cavendish Pianos are a specialist family team committed to crafting exceptional pianos. Cavendish is one of only two remaining piano build houses still in operation in the United Kingdom.

With each piano built with up to 20,000 parts, Cavendish Pianos work with hardwood sawmills, felt makers and a hand-spinner of piano strings to craft exceptional pianos made with exquisite materials such as British walnut, ash and oak.

Cavendish has received plaudits across the piano playing community, national press and music industry. In 2014, the Cavendish Contemporary 121 Upright Piano won the 2014 Music Industry Award in the Best Acoustic Piano category.

After selecting from their diverse range, customers can choose to include custom plaques, inscriptions and special features making a unique piano to be enjoyed for generations to come. The team will capture each stage of your piano being built, for you to treasure and share.

The Full Cavendish Range

Cavendish Classic 112

Despite being of small size (112cm) it possesses an astonishing richness of sound. Its treble is open and crystal without ever being harsh. The middle sings naturally and is classically European.
The bass astonishes by its depth and full tone without drowning the treble. The range of sound of this instrument is large and its reserve of power is very impressive.
It is an excellent instrument with very good musical qualities at an affordable price.

Dimensions: Height 112 cm, Width 150cm, Depth 60cm

The Cavendish Classic is available in polished black as standard although any other finish is available to order.

Cavendish Contemporary 121

Winner of “Best Piano” category in 2014 MIA Awards

Thanks to longer keys, a larger area of soundboard, and longer hand-made bass strings, our ‘Contemporary’ model upright offers greater sensitivity of touch and an enhanced dynamic range to produce a very impressive richness of sound for the discerning pianist. The exceptional mellow clarity of tone and superb sustain make them a delight to play

Dimensions: Height 121 cm, Width 153cm, Depth 62cm

The Cavendish Contemporary is available in polished black as standard although any other finish is available to order.

Cavendish Chatsworth

The ‘Chatsworth’ is the jewel in the crown of the Cavendish range.
The case is cabinet-maker built in Yorkshire from solid walnut. This is an entirely one-off process and each piano has its own individual character. The process of hand-selecting and hand-crafting wood is not suited to the modern, large assembly-line-based piano factory. For this reason we are able to offer a truly unique product.
The Cavendish Chatsworth is the only new piano available which is built entirely in the traditional way using traditional materials. The result is a piano of heirloom quality which can proudly continue the tradition of British piano building.

Dimensions: Height 124 cm, Width 153cm, Depth 62cm

Cavendish Customer Testimonials

” Playing a Cavendish piano is such a rewarding musical experience. The dynamic range is so large I can always create the sound I require. A British classic!”
Ian McTeer DRSAM ARCM Concert Pianist
” I’d just like to say how delighted we are with the piano. I came to choose the piano with my piano teacher who fell in love with it and said she’d be so pleased to teach me on it she would give me free lessons! I simply love the tone of a British built piano and am proud to own it! It’s really beautiful. “
Gaynor G (Oakworth)
“The moment we saw the piano we knew it was for us! We live in an old cottage and it fits in perfectly. It’s so beautifully made it really is stunning! The tone is exactly what a piano should be in our opinion and it plays like a dream! We are overjoyed with it!”
(Cavendish Chatsworth Model)
G. Tober
“We opted for the Boudoir grand because we wanted lots of dynamic range. Altough it’s a powerful piano I find I can play very quietly when needed. This is particually important when accompanying Paula who is a singer.
The touch is even and responds perfectly. The piano’s design with the wide tail gives a rich tone which is what I love.!”
John & Paula Fenton
” I love my Cavendish Baby grand! I’m in the textile industry and actually know the Hainsworth family who make parts for it. But to be honest I played all the pianos I could and liked the sound of the Cavendish the best – even better than the Steinway!”
Jane Woodthorpe (Yorkshire)
” It’s always a great pleasure to play on a Cavendish piano. The action feels easy, natural and fluid yet is also quick enough to respond to whatever sound or texture I want to create. The well-rounded, warm, tone reminds me so much of the British piano I used to play on as a child. I can’t wait to buy one myself.”
Emmanuel Vass BMus(Hons), CT ABRSM, DipABRSM Concert Pianist
